MEMPHIS, Tenn. – It’s been more than two weeks since the Memphis Shelby County Schools’ special called meeting where board members attempted to fire Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins.
“In Memphis, if you call somebody a liar, you better be able to back it up. And so far, they haven’t been able to back it up,” her attorney, Alan Crone, told FOX13.
Crone said the board initially gave Feagins until Friday to submit her response, but her attorney submitted his own request. “One, I said, ‘I’d like more specifics on exactly what Dr. Feagins is being accused of. And the other is, I’d like a little more time to answer,'” he said.

MSCS board chair Joyce Dorse-Coleman’s resolution claims Feagins misled the board about employees abuse of overtime, accepted a $45,000 donation without board approval, and she missed deadlines to secure a federal grant.
Crone said the allegations against her are not valid.

“I think they’re very flimsy,” he said. “And that’s one reason why I asked for more information is, you know, show us, and it’s not just Dr. Feagins. It’s the community. The community deserves to know, ‘OK, what policies are you saying that she violated? What specific statements are you saying that were false or misleading?'”

Crone said he’s received hundreds of messages from people in support of the superintendent: “Some of them have nothing to do with the school system, working class people, some executives here in business, some public officials. What they all say to me is to one extent or another, we need a reformer like Dr. Feagins and she hasn’t had enough time.”
Crone said the response will be filed Monday, Jan. 6.
