RAPID CITY, S.D. – Eighth graders from Rapid City Area Schools were at The Monument today to get a peek at their future. As part of the college and career readiness course, students gathered for the annual college and career fair. Over 70 vendors attended, representing various industries and providing students the opportunity to engage with professionals.
“Our eighth grade career fair is really an opportunity for all of our eighth graders to come and experience and get an idea of the different career opportunities out there,” said Bonnie Jo Donovan, College & Career Readiness Manager with RCAS, “We bring in vendors from all 16 career clusters along with our post-secondary institutions to really engage with students about different careers that they might be interested in.”
The career fair is the first step to the RCAS Academies & Pathways program, which students will start in high school. The program gives students technical training in their chosen field, and can even lead to certifications.
The eighth grade career fair will return to The Monument next year for the next batch of students.
