COLUMBIA — The fourth annual Sophie Cunningham Classic tipped off Friday at Columbia College’s Southwell Complex, bringing together basketball teams from around the country.
The 21-game invitational runs Friday through Sunday, featuring teams from Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Texas and New York.
The action began at 11 a.m. Friday, with Battle (3-6) facing Blue Valley North (Kansas). The eighth and final game of the Friday slate features Cunningham’s alma mater, Rock Bridge (10-4) taking on Olathe South (Kansas) at 9:30 p.m.

Several highly ranked players from across the country will compete in the showcase. Long Island Lutheran (New York) features four players ranked in the top 25 of the ESPNW Top 100, including Vanderbilt commit Olivia Jones, Kentucky commits Savvy Swords and Emily McDonald and Duke commit Sanai Green. Tenth-ranked recruit Addison Bjorn leads Park Hill South (6-3) against Quincy (Illinois) at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Tolton (4-7) opens the day on Sunday against Harrisburg (7-2) at 10 a.m. Other Sunday matchups include Hickman (7-5) facing Troy Buchanan (8-2) at 11:30 a.m. and Centralia (11-1) against MICDS (9-2) at 2:30 p.m. Rock Bridge wraps up the weekend with a contest against Liberty North at 4 p.m.
