NH Art Association announces May exhibitions
PORTSMOUTH — New Hampshire Art Association is hosting several exhibitions in May. All Exhibitions will be on view at Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery, 136 State St., Portsmouth, now through Jun 1, with an opening reception on May 2. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 12-5 p.m.
May exhibition line-up:
Interwoven- Group Exhibition: Interwoven explores the intricate connections that bind people, cultures, histories, and ideas. Just as individual threads come together to form a unified fabric, this exhibition celebrates how shared experiences and personal narratives intertwine to shape our understanding of community, identity, and belonging. The works on view span a range of media—woven textiles, mixed media, abstract painting, and more—all responding to the central theme of connection. Artists were invited to interpret “interwoven” both literally and metaphorically, resulting in an exhibition rich with visual and emotional texture.
Play|Ground – Kristy Cavaretta, Ashley Normal, Alicia Ethridge, & Meghan Samson: Anchored by a shared experience of motherhood, the four artists explore how the cycles of care, chaos, and resilience mirror the artistic process. From whimsical textures to layered imagery and unexpected juxtapositions, Play|Ground offers an eclectic and engaging visual experience that invites viewers of all ages to reconnect with joy, curiosity, and wonder.
Back to the Old Country- Carmine Angeloni: The exhibition explores the tension and beauty of cultural duality—of being rooted in two places at once—and the enduring connection that many descendants of immigrants feel toward their ancestral homeland. Angeloni’s lens captures both the quiet intimacy and the historical resonance of these landscapes, streets, and structures.
SeaCoast Views- Rita Pomereau: This body of work offers an intimate and vibrant look at the landscapes of coastal New Hampshire and Maine, seen through the eyes of an artist who finds joy and meaning in the act of painting outdoors and in the studio. Drawing inspiration from the colors, shadows, and textures of the natural world, Pomerleau paints both en plein air and from photographs she captures while exploring the region. Her works reflect a deep connection to place and a love for the ever-changing beauty of the Seacoast.
Art In Bloom- Ree Katrak: Blending painting, collage, and text-based installation, Art in Bloom offers a personal and evolving visual language that reflects Katrak’s artistic journey. Her work embraces change as a vital part of making art, shedding old assumptions and opening up to new ways of seeing and creating.
