Debra Minsky-Kelly, assistant professor of social work and director of field education, is providing support for the mental health podcast “Wish You Knew.”
Prof. Kelly plays a critical role as a mental health professional, advising this groundbreaking podcast. As a UMatter oversight committee member and licensed clinical social worker, Prof. Kelly listens to podcast episodes before they are published. Her job is to pay attention to potential unintended consequences of sharing traumatic stories.
“They may feel great when they’re being interviewed, but there’s a real vulnerability to having your story out there, especially in the social media,” Prof. Kelly said.
If you or someone you know is dealing with suicidal thoughts or is having a mental crisis, call the National Suicide Lifeline at 988 or text “Hopeline” to the National Crisis Text Line at 741-741.
