MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – Students of Marietta College will see a different form to the first floor of the Legacy Library this fall.
The new Milone Academic and Career Services Center is being built in that area after a $1 million dollar donation from Mike and Julie Milone, parents to 2012 alumni John and Gail Milone.
Marietta College Interim President Dr. Kathleen Dougherty says the intention for the new center is to improve student and staff collaboration.
Dougherty says the donation from the Milone’s is a targeted one, and is only being used to build the center in the library. No other funds are being used for this project.
Dougherty says the center will have spaces for students to either do mock interviews, or real interviews online or in-person. There will also be opportunities for students to get their résumés polished.
The academic success services are also moving to the library, with new offices and collaborative spaces being installed as well.
Marietta College Director of Communications Linda Lockhart says the books that were on the first floor are being relocated to different parts of the library, but they are all remaining on campus.
All of the academic and career success centers dotted around campus will move into the library for a more central location. The only service center not moving is the Office of Accessibility.
Senior Director of Entrepreneurship and Career Development Dr. Jacqueline Khorassani says the center will become a one stop shop for students.
Khorassani says she’s also excited for the collaboration opportunities she will have with her colleagues, who used to be all over campus.
Senior English student Haylyn Hiles says she believes that the center will help to improve her career once she graduates next year.
Dougherty says construction will ramp up later this month, and they hope to complete the project by the end of September.
