(WSBT) — The holiday season is here, and while it can be a joyful time, doctors say that it’s also a risky time for heart attacks.
The days surrounding holidays are the most likely time on a percentage basis when somebody will have a cardiac event, heart attack, or stroke.

Unfortunately, cardiovascular disease and heart attacks is the number one killer. And every person in the United States and certainly in the great state of Indiana, is at risk,” said Dr. Jack Wolfson, a cardiologist and the founder of Natural Heart Doctor.
During the holiday season, Dr. Wolfson says that the number spikes as people aren’t eating as healthily and are drinking more on average.
It’s a good idea to limit your alcohol exposure to one or two drinks, certainly at an event, but ideally even on a weekly basis,” Dr. Wolfson said.
Dr. Wolfson has been working as a cardiologist since 2002, and says he’s been trying to look at the root cause of why people have heart attacks and strokes.
He says it’s mainly because someone is lacking good nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, or a healthy mindset.

Ultimately, try to do things that make you happy in the holiday season. Try to understand that stress really is a problem. And if you are stressed out at this time of year, you’d better do something about it because your life truly does depend on it,” Dr. Wolfson said.

Doctor Wolfson also says to try and get outside and bundle up, despite the cold weather, to increase your exposure to Vitamin D.
