BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Winter weather continues in Whatcom County with wind and rain in the lowlands and epic snowfall in the North Cascades. That’s good news for skiers and snowboarders, but also for folks looking to do something cozy.
The Mount Baker Ski Area is getting pummeled with snow and that shouldn’t change much this weekend. Powder hounds and lovers of the winter wonderland in the mountains an hour east of Bellingham will no doubt be up early and headed to the slopes. Baker currently has a base of 88 inches at Heather Meadows with a whopping 108 inches on top of Pan Dome. These are the conditions we dream about all year long, so head east and enjoy.
If you’re heading up the mountain and need to rent gear, there are multiple options for you. The Mt. Baker Ski Area rents all the gear you need, but you can also rent right here in Bellingham. Backcountry Essentials and Yeager’s Sporting Goods have everything you need to enjoy a day on the mountain. You can also swing by the Glacier Ski Shop on the way up.
If a cozy day in downtown Bellingham sounds more like your cup of tea, head to the Mount Baker Theatre for some magic. Walton Magic runs Saturday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. It’s world-class magic in the more intimate confines of the Harold and Irene Walton Theatre.
