Vendors will share about the plant-based lifestyle this Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8, at Buchanan Park.
LANCASTER, Pa. — Happening this weekend is the 9th Annual Lancaster VegFest!
On Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8, at Buchanan Park, plenty of local vendors will come together to celebrate the plant-based and vegan lifestyle.
“It has many different aspects to it. There are kids’ activities like giant bubbles, there’s free yoga, there’s live music. There’s speakers and chef demos, an organic farmers market, there’s merchandise, our artists and a whole lot of food,” said Courtney Kokus, the event’s organizer.
She explains that the mission of the festival is to provide information about the benefits of a vegan lifestyle for animals, the environment, social justice and health.
“I believe that it’s important for people to be able to go to something that has a soft approach on animal activism and veganism as a whole,” said Kokus. “I feel like there’s a lot of misconceptions out there about what veganism is, and VegFest provides an opportunity for people to see that it’s maybe not as hardline or it’s not as scary or as, you know, stern as people might think it is.”
The new restaurant, Bad Garden Kitchen, will be one of the many food vendors at the event.
Kirstie Morris, co-owner of Bad Garden Kitchen, says if you are interested in checking out the plant-based lifestyle, VegFest is the place to try it.
“It’s easy, it’s great for the environment, it’s great for yourself, it’s great for the animals, it’s great for everybody so just give it a try and see if you like it,” said Morris.
It’s free to attend Lancaster VegFest from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The festival is asking for attendees to consider donating to Lancaster Farm Sanctuary, who will be collecting donations at the door.
