CLEVELAND – With no public transportation, the Delta can sometimes be a hard place to get around.
But a new company in Cleveland wants to change that.
Lighting Shared Scooters Company wants us to adopt “Scooter Culture.”
Folks in Cleveland say they’re excited to hear about launching a new transportation form around town.
Ladatrian Bolden says it would be perfect for people who don’t own cars.
“I feel like that’s a good opportunity for the people who don’t really have any transportation to really get around” said Bolen.
He says he used electric scooters to get around Memphis and found it an easy way to go.
“I know they have them on the street, so they people just pay and they can go” said Bolden.
George Howard, the Management Partner of Lighting Shared Scooters Company, says he’s planning on deploying scooters in Cleveland at the beginning of January 2026.
“Our plans are to have anywhere between two to 300 starting off here in the city of Cleveland, if allowed, we will have some stipulations with these with riding these scooters” said Howard.
Delta State Student Tomohiro Akaiwa says it would be an excellent transportation method for college students and great for the environment.
“Scooter is use electric, electricity, but the car is mostly is, you know, fuel. So that’s more benefit for environment” said Akaiwa.
Howard also says that he plans to add more jobs to the local economy.
“We’re trying to bring more jobs here people that have problems with finding jobs” said Howard.
Meanwhile, Bolden believes that this business will change transportation around Cleveland.
“Better transportation methods other than like them having to go on and find them a ride or something. It’s much safer” said Bolden.
