In this series called In the Spotlight,  we feature one staff member each month. In this edition, we spotlight Ayelen Valeton, a member of the College of Education’s Wellness Committee, the 2024 EHRA recipient of the college’s 2024 Dr. Louis D. Hunt Service Leadership Award, and the college’s business operations manager. Below she answers five questions.

📣 What I tell others about my job: I have proudly served in the College of Education’s Business Office for the past 12 years. Currently, I hold the position of Business Operations Manager. In this role, I ensure that all financial actions and operations are executed smoothly, on time, and in strict adherence to University compliance standards. Additionally, I oversee the College of Education Unit budgets, guaranteeing that spending is both proper and timely, in accordance with the guidelines of each funding source. Our centralized process allows for efficient management and coordination across all financial activities.

✏️ Favorite part of my job:

  1. Supporting Our Faculty, Staff, and Students: I take pride in contributing to the College’s mission and vision. By assisting others in realizing their initiatives and ensuring compliance, I help maintain our good standing within the University.
  2.  The People: I cherish working with my team, as well as the faculty, students, and staff from various Units and Departments. Each individual brings a unique perspective, and I thrive on learning and growing from these interactions. My team continually inspires me to improve and share my knowledge, ensuring smooth operations.
  3. The Process: As an enthusiast of puzzles, I enjoy streamlining complex processes and finding innovative solutions. Embracing new technologies not only enhances my work but also benefits those around me, making our tasks more efficient and effective.

🌴 What I do away from my job:  Away from work, I cherish spending quality time with my family, creating lasting memories together. I have a passion for traveling to intriguing destinations that invigorate the mind, body, and spirit. My love for the outdoors is evident in my hobbies, which include hiking, running, swimming, whitewater rafting, ziplining, etc. Occasionally, I indulge my inner child by visiting theme parks, where I enjoy the thrill of riding roller coasters and embracing the joy of the moment.

💡 Something that recently inspired me:  Something that recently inspired me: Recently, I found immense inspiration in watching the Olympics. The event brings together exceptional athletes from around the globe, showcasing not only their physical prowess but also their mental fortitude and dedication. The friendly competitiveness and the spirit of unity among the participants are truly uplifting. Track and Field, in particular, captivates me. Observing the athletes’ rigorous training and unwavering focus is incredibly motivating. Their journey exemplifies the importance of hard work, resilience, and mental strength, serving as a powerful lesson for both current and future generations. This experience has reinforced my belief that dedication and comprehensive training, both physically and mentally, are crucial for success in both professional and personal endeavors.

❤️ What I love about the College of Education: I am honored to contribute to the mission and vision of the College of Education. This institution provides me with a profound sense of purpose and motivation to continue the essential work of supporting our faculty, staff, and students, ensuring the education of future generations. What I love most about the College of Education are the opportunities it offers. The wonderful mentorships and the trust placed in me to grow and provide support are invaluable. I strive to be a helpful hand to others, assisting them in navigating the nuances of the guidelines and requirements set by the University and the State. This environment fosters both personal and professional growth, reinforcing my commitment to making a positive impact in the College of Education.
