WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) — Governor Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Education announced $4 million in grants for charter schools on Friday.
11 charter schools will receive the funding through the Iowa Charter Start-Up and Expansion Grant program, according to the Governor’s office.
A number of schools in Eastern Iowa will receive grants. CIVICA Elementary Charter School, Empowering Excellence Charter School, and Quest Forward Charter School, all in Cedar Rapids, will receive up to $500,000. West Central Charter High School in Maynard will receive $200,000.
The money will be used to help new charter schools get started and existing charter schools improve or expand. Governor Reynolds announced the charter school grant program in May of 2024.
A charter school is a public school that operates independently of a local school district.
