Google is set to expand its health-related AI summaries in search. This move comes as a part of an effort from the tech giant to enhance its influence in the health sector. Google is rolling out improvements to health-related answers in AI Overviews and other tools like “What People Suggest”. AI Overviews is a feature in Google searches that provides an AI-generated response at the top of results. Apart from this, the company also recently announced that it is updating a new AI system to aid researchers in scientific and biomedical discoveries.

in a blog post timed to a company event in New York (seen by Bloomberg), Karen DeSalvo, Google’s chief health officer said: “These updates show the potential of AI to transform health outcomes across the globe.”
Google’s ‘What People Suggest’ feature in search topics and more
Powered by advancements in Google’s Gemini model, AI Overviews will now cover more health topics. It will also expand to more countries and languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese.
Google is adding a separate feature in search called “What People Suggest.” This feature aims to provide users with information from people with similar medical experiences.
Last month, the company introduced AI co-scientist, a system designed to serve as a “virtual scientific collaborator” for researchers and scientists, powered by Gemini 2.0.
Google stated that co-scientist can assist researchers in analysing large volumes of literature to propose new hypotheses, suggest potential experimental approaches based on specific research goals, and summarise existing relevant studies.
Additionally, the company announced the upcoming release of TxGemma, an open AI model aimed at aiding researchers in predicting outcomes in the drug development process.
