ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton is in a unique position for the 2025 Sugar Bowl.
The third-year sophomore will make his first start for the Dawgs against Notre Dame in New Orleans. He will replace starter Carson Beck after Beck had season-ending surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Beck – who had entered his senior season at UGA with hopes of winning a national championship and the Heisman Trophy – was injured at the end of the first half of the SEC Championship against Texas. He missed the entire second half and only came back in on what became the game’s final play, a hand-off to running back Trevor Etienne, who scored the game-winning touchdown.
Stockton went 12 for 16 for 71 yards, no touchdowns and one interception before taking a huge hit toward the end of the first overtime and leaving the field.
