The Western Colorado Community Foundation (WCCF) is accepting applications for a wide variety of scholarships available to western Colorado students.
A total of 38 different scholarship funds are available for students through one online application at wc-cf.org/scholarships. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000. Many available scholarships are four-year scholarships.
Criteria varies based on financial need, GPA scores, and selected college or field of study, and covers both four-year degree programs and vocational institutions. There are a few scholarships available to students from any region in the state, but counties with specific scholarships include Mesa, Delta, Montrose, Garfield, Eagle, Montezuma, Ouray, Rio Blanco and San Juan.

In 2025, the WCCF distributed $845,500 in scholarships to 276 students from Western Slope counties.
CAPROCK EARNS GOLD RATING
Caprock Academy has been named to the 2025 Advanced Placement School Honor Roll for the third consecutive year, earning gold distinction in 2025.
The recognition, which was announced by the AP College Board, honors schools that deliver strong academic outcomes while expanding access to college-level coursework. Schools earn this recognition annually based on criteria such as a college-going culture, increasing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
During the 2024-2025 school year, 60% of Caprock seniors took at least one AP exam, 85% earned a score of 3 or higher on at least one AP exam, and six completed five or more AP exams during their time in high school. The school currently offers 13 AP courses.
“This recognition reflects the hard work of our students and teachers and the intentional culture we’ve built at Caprock Academy,” said Caprock Head of School Matt Diers. “Being named to the AP School Honor Roll for the third consecutive year, and earning Gold distinction this year, affirms our commitment to providing meaningful academic challenge while supporting every student’s growth and readiness for what comes next.”
Caprock also announced Thursday that it has launched a Concurrent Enrollment program in partnership with Colorado Mesa University, marking the first time in the school’s history that students are able to earn college credit through in-person coursework while still enrolled in high school.
Through the partnership, Caprock seniors have the opportunity to leave campus during the school day to attend college-level classes in person at CMU. This semester, 10 Caprock seniors are enrolled in concurrent classes.
