WASHINGTON — Mayor Muriel Bowser announced a new Public Service Career Hub with resources and jobs for federal workers who have been impacted by layoffs.
Bowser said Wednesday, during a tele-town hall she’s doing everything she can to help federal employees with their transitions.
“Our fellow Washingtonians are in shock, angry, anxious about their futures and how they’re going to take care of their families, and I’m so very sorry they are having this experience.” Bowser said.
Of the 2.1 million federal employees across the country, 191,000 of them work in D.C. Bowser said she’s focusing on investing in growth, good paying jobs and economic activity in D.C.
She acknowledged the layoffs will have a heavy impact on D.C.’s budget.
“We can expect in the District to have $325 million less than what we thought we would have in December,” Bowser said.
The mayor and her team also announced resources available to federal workers who are now looking for new jobs.
Charles Hall Jr. the director of D.C.’s Department of Human Resources announced a new Public Service Career Hub where residents can submit their resumes and apply for available jobs.
“The employers will be able to see your profile and your résumé so that they can start identifying whether or not they’d like to reach out to you to schedule an interview,” Hall said.
The District will also host a job fair featuring different positions in D.C. government and private employers across the city on March 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kellogg Conference at Gallaudet University at 800 Florida Ave. NE.
