Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State’s College of Education share recent research and career achievements.
- Erica Frankenberg, professor of education and demography, has once again been recognized in the Edu-Scholar Public Influence Rankings, released annually by the American Enterprise Institute. The list highlights education scholars whose work helps shape public conversations about education — both on campus and beyond. In addition, she was also interviewed for an Education Week article, “How One District’s Dual-Language Program Helped to Desegregate Schools” — which is centered around her recent co-authored paper in Social Science Research, “Dual language immersion programs and their neighborhoods: Issues of program access and representation within Los Angeles Unified School District.” Frankenberg also co-authored a research brief in Advanced Equity, “Who Takes Calculus Courses? An Analysis of CRDC Data From 2011-2021.”
- Kevin Kinser, professor of education, is co-editor of a new Brill volume, “II Global Trends in Tertiary Education QA.” The volume is part of the series Global Perspectives on Higher Education.
- Madeline Shanafelt, a Schreyer Scholar studying education and public policy and political science, while also pursuing a master’s degree in educational theory and policy, wrote an essay, “Media Literacy in Civic Education: Teaching Students the Skills of Being a Citizen,” that was published in Social Studies Journal. The essay took root in an educational theory and policy class taught by Dana Mitra, professor of education.
- Ryan D. West, a doctoral candidate in the Penn State World Campus Doctor of Education program, is co-author of a new article in The Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, “Behaviorally Informed Organization Development: Integrating Counseling Theories to OD Practices.” William J. Rothwell, emeritus distinguished professor of education, is lead author.
