Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State’s College of Education share recent research and career achievements.
- Alagammai Meyyappan, a doctoral student in the Department of Education Policy Studies, was recently named a 2025 Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management (APPAM) Equity & Inclusion Fellow. As part of the fellowship, she attended APPAM’s annual fall research conference in Seattle.
- Dana Mitra, professor of education policy studies, recently participated in a Wilton Park seminar in the United Kingdom on empathy and youth. The seminar explored how compassion-centered practices and non-formal education can help counter global polarization and extremism. The discussions highlighted youth development as a pathway to engaged global citizenship and featured thoughtful contributions from Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, with plans underway to advance this work internationally.
- Wilson Okello, associate professor of higher education, is lead author of a new article, “Against the grain: Deep reading as abolitionist praxis in education” in Curriculum Inquiry.
- Priya Sharma, associate professor of learning, design, and technology, has been selected as one of the 20 Faculty Upskilling Fellows by Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences. Sharma is advancing the frontier of teaching & learning — aiming to integrate ethical artificial intelligence, machine learning for educational data mining, and human-centered design into education.
