CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – School board leaders with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools on Wednesday night voted unanimously during an emergency meeting to make changes to the school calendar to make up for days missed due to winter storms.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill, on Wednesday, Feb. 4, during the meeting, recommended that they change the two days of early release to full days.

It was unanimously voted to change Wednesday, Feb. 11, and Wednesday, April 29, from early-release days to full days to make up for missed days over the last couple of weeks due to winter storms.
During the past couple of weeks, the winter storms forced Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to cancel school for three days, have three remote learning days, and two delayed starts. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools had a delayed start in early December.
“Families are rightly focused on instructional time,” said Board of Education Chair Stephanie Sneed. “By supporting the Superintendent’s recommendation to convert the remaining early release days to full instructional days, we’re choosing to exceed state requirements because it’s what best serves students.”
Charlotte-Mecklenburg students have not followed their regular schedule since Jan. 22, two days before the ice storm arrived in the Carolinas.
Since then, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools have either had a remote learning day, were operating on a 2-hour delay, or were closed.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said on Wednesday that students would return to their regular school and district schedule on Thursday, Feb. 4.
