 Salary: Depends on Qualifications

 Aviation Management and Career Pilot Program Chair/Instructor

 The Aviation Management and Career Pilot Technology Program Chair/Instructor is responsible for providing oversight of the program and planning quality instruction to students using seated, online, and hybrid courses. This individual is responsible for providing innovative and engaging instruction and ensuring that course topics and examples evolve with advancements in the field. This position is responsible for scheduling, creating, and coordinating all courses for students to successfully complete degree requirements. This individual will coordinate all facets of the Aviation Management and Career Pilot Technology Program; devising and executing a recruiting program to engage and enroll new students. More specifically, this individual will network with regional aviation partners to collaborate on projects, market the aviation program, and further develop partnerships crucial to Aviation in the surrounding region. This position will report to the Director of Advanced Manufacturing & Industrial Systems Technology Program Chair.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in the aerospace discipline from an institutionally accredited college or university or an Associate degree with completion of Bachelor’s degree expected within 3 years

·         A minimum of three years demonstrated aviation management and/or relevant aviation experience

·         Must hold a current FAA Flight Instructor Certification

·         In depth knowledge of the regional aviation industry and emerging sectors 

·         Previous teaching experience at a community college or university, experience using instructional technologies, and teaching online courses are preferred skills

Working Conditions

·         Typical classroom or online teaching environment 

·         Frequent flight simulator use for extended periods of time

·         Occasional flight instruction in a cockpit may be needed (Note: LCC does not currently operate a flight school)

·         Frequent standing for 6 to 8 hours per day, withstanding frequent changes in temperature 

·         Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling 

·         Infrequent lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs. without assistance 

·         Frequent travel between buildings on campus and infrequent travel to other campuses 

·         Frequent communication with students and other faculty and staff members 

·         Infrequent sitting at a desk or workstation using a telephone, computer, keyboard, and mouse 

·         Exposure to fire and chemical hazards

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The duties of the Aviation Management Program Chair/Instructor include, but are not limited to:

·         Create and lead academic planning to provide quality educational programs

·         Teach credit or non-credit courses in the teaching discipline as needed

·         Recruit and train faculty (full-time and/or part-time) to teach aviation courses

·         Evaluate aviation faculty as needed

·         Recruit and market programs to students, aviation business partners, and other external constituents

·         Supervise the growth and expansion of aviation programs to include curriculum and continuing education offerings

·         Cultivate internal and external partnerships and activities to develop new programs, garner resources, and serve students in the community

·         Create and maintain a culture of innovation and input that encourages professional development and stakeholder input

·         Develop new programs and options based on local and regional needs and the College’s strategic plan 

·         Direct the development and administration of a cost-effective budget for assigned functions; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; and monitor and approve expenditures

·         Work collaboratively with the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division in the development of short-term training to meet the needs of the community

·         Initiate and nurture joint programs with baccalaureate institutions 

·         Engage in and support the work of the LCC Foundation by assisting in the development of aviation-specific scholarships 

·         Maintain and regularly update the Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center of Excellence website with the Web and Form Developer

Mastery of Subject Matter   

·         Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the teaching discipline  

·         Display ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of the field or discipline  

·         Connect the subject matter with related fields  

·         Stay current in the subject matter through professional development; involvement in professional organizations; and attending professional meetings, conferences, and/or workshops  

·         Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate   

Teaching Performance   

·         Teach a course load appropriate to the teaching discipline   

·         Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning  

·         Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students  

·         Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs  

·         Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, interactive technology, etc., when appropriate  

·         Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate student assignments  

·         Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives   

Evaluation of Student Learning   

·         Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives  

·         Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives  

·         Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning  

·         Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades each semester according to established deadlines  

·         Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances    

Support of College Policies and Procedures   

·         Teach classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment  

·         Teach credit or non-credit courses in the teaching discipline as needed  

·         Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and to students for advisement and consultation  

·         Serve as faculty academic advisor for students  

·         Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies  

·         Maintain confidentiality of student information  

·         Substitute for other instructors in the teaching discipline in case of an absence  

·         Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources  

·         Comply with responsibilities as cited in the Lenoir Community College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Handbook for Distance Education, Policy Manual, and Procedures Manual   

Participation in College, Division, Department, and Program Activities    

·         Serve on college committees as assigned  

·         Participate in meetings and events as required  

·         Respond in a timely manner to requests for information   

·         Support both part-time and full-time colleagues  

·         Contribute to program, department, and division curriculum development processes  

·         Participate in graduation ceremonies  

·         Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators as an individual or as a team member   

Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs   

·         Maintain familiarity with college goals, mission, and long-range plans  

·         Contribute to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels  

·         Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents  

·         Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, mission, and plans of the College  

·         Participate in the marketing, recruitment, and retention of students, faculty, and staff  

·         Other duties and responsibilities as assigned   

Other Duties

·         Direct students in laboratory classes; train and supervise activities of students in lab settings; assist students with lab assignments and related activities  

·         Ensure that equipment, materials, and other resources, such as instructional aids are available for classes  

·         Take a lead role in maintaining lab equipment; and if needed, perform simple maintenance  

·         Make arrangements for equipment repairs when machines break down   

·         Coordinate and supervise curriculum development by designing, planning, organizing, and evaluating the assigned program of study   

·         Supervise and participate in the evaluation of faculty within the program area
