Since immigrating to the United States, people of Arab ancestry have shared their culture, traditions, and strong work ethic with their communities.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For many years Arab Americans have made valuable contributions to almost every aspect of American life like taking part in business, culture, education, government, law, medicine and technology.
Not only has the Arab American community enriched American society through sharing their own culture, family values, strong work ethic, dedication to education and public service, but also share an entrepreneurial American spirit in promoting a free and prosperous nation, according to Governor Josh Stein.
Charlotte has a Arab American presence where many restaurants, coffee shops, religious entities and international markets are Arab owned. These places contribute to the diversity of Charlottes community.
The history of Arab American in the United States is neglected and undervalued.
A community that faces issues such “as civil rights abuses, harmful stereotyping and bullying of Arab Americans must be combated through thoughtful education, awareness and accountability” Governor Stein said.
Arab Americans, just like all Americans, desire a peaceful and diverse society, where every individual can be treated equally and feel safe.
Gov. Stein continued “the State of North Carolina is honored to count Arab Americans among our population and is proud to recognize the incredible contributions and heritage of Arab Americans in our state and throughout the nation.”
