LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Student walkouts over the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minnesota happened around the country Friday, including in Louisville and southern Indiana.

Students from several schools in the area contacted WDRB and said they would participate. Students at Manual High School and Butler High School in Louisville protested with signs, chanting and giving speeches in the nationwide walkout.

Students at New Albany High School in southern Indiana also participated.

Protests and walkouts at schools have been held for weeks since two different people were shot by federal agents in Minneapolis.

The movement has started a new round of debate between parents, teachers, and administrators on how schools should respond to students taking part.

Friday’s walkouts come as 700 immigration officers are expected to leave Minnesota, according to President Donald Trump’s border czar Tom Homan. That’s roughly a quarter of the total officers deployed to the state.
