Chicago Public Schools and all CPS buildings and activities will resume Monday, the district announced. The announcement comes as frigid conditions across the Chicago area continue, with a cold weather advisory in effect and morning wind chills as low as -25 degrees.

“Based on the forecast, CPS schools and offices will be open on Monday, January 26,” CPS’ latest announcement, posted to social media said. “We are working to ensure every school is safe, warm, and dry, and that meal service is ready for students. CTA will operate with regular hours and service.”

The announcement comes after CPS on Friday closed all schools and offices due to extremely cold conditions.

CPS also posted a letter to families about the closures and the cold, saying it was monitoring conditions over the weekend.

“Cold weather is expected to continue next week,” the letter, posted Sunday, said. “We plan to open schools on Monday and want to ensure staff, students, and families have time to prepare. Our teams are working to ensure every school is safe, warm, and dry, and that meal service is ready for students. CTA will operate with regular hours and service.”

“We will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as needed,” the letter continued. “Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you back on Monday, January 26.”

The announcement from the state’s largest school district comes as dozens of other schools in the Chicago area said they will close for in-person learning Monday, or shift to a remote E-learning schedule. That includes District 103 in Lyons, District 111 in Burbank, District 124 in Evergreen Park and Joliet District 86, according to the Emergency Closing Center.
