On Jan. 23, the UNF Student Government (SG) committees were scheduled to appoint new justices, approve financial requests, and discuss January’s Osprey Voice survey topic.
However, due to a lack of voting members, the Rules and Oversight Committee (R&O) was unable to conduct business. The appointments were tabled for the next meeting. The remaining committees proceeded as scheduled.
The Budget and Allocations Committee (B&A) heard multiple requests from UNF organizations while the University and Student Affairs Committee (USA) finalized the SG survey topic for the month.
Budgets and Allocations Committee
Four travel requests were brought to the B&A committee and each petition for $2,000 was unanimously approved.
The UNF Health Administration Student Association, Institute of Travel Engineers, Athletic Trainers’ Student Association, and Health Administration Case competitors each separately requested $2,000 for lodging and travel expenses.
The UNF Health Administration Student Association requested funds for 18 students to travel to Houston, Texas, to attend the American Congress on Healthcare Leadership.
The Institute of Travel Engineers requested funds for 17 students to attend the ITE Student Leadership Summit in Orlando, Florida.
The Athletic Trainers’ Student Association requested funds for 17 students to visit the Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Health Administration Case competitors included four students from the Brooks College of Health who requested funds to attend the 2026 UAB Case Competition.
The SG travel request budget previously stood at $32,618.98 and after approval, the budget is now at $24,618.98.
Osprey Racing was the only Registered Student Organization (RSO) that made a special request during this meeting. The RSO petitioned for $6,885.27 for new racing components necessary for competition.
Chair Hazel Joseph asked the Osprey Racing representative if the new parts would go towards a “current build” or an “upcoming season build”.
“This [prototype] is what we’re building for this year, for the 2026 competition,” said Osprey Racing Treasurer Jackson Shirey.
Following approval of Osprey Racing’ petition, the SG special request budget stands at $75,979.21.
Associate Director Jason Edgar, who acts as a fiscal advisor for SG, reminded petitioners that their request still stands for approval by Student Body President Amelia Dyal.
“I’m not familiar if all of you know the process of what happens next but the student body president has five business days from today to approve or deny your request,” said Edgar.
University and Student Affairs Committee
The USA committee decided on the Osprey Voice survey for the month of January, according to an email sent by Chair Shipton MacDonald.
“USA will be pushing out their Osprey Voice survey for the month of January on the topic of Dining, next week,” said MacDonald.
