MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello Adult Education program will hold a grand opening for its new UAM Adult Education Center at 3000 S. Olive St. in Pine Bluff from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. This event is free and open to the public and will include complimentary refreshments and door prizes.
The grand opening will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by the Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce. Bob Ware, vice chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology-McGehee, and Trenia Miles, director of the Arkansas Adult Education Section for Arkansas Workforce Connections, will deliver brief welcome speeches before the ribbon-cutting.
During this come-and-go event, attendees will have an opportunity to explore the new center, enroll in Adult Education programs and interact with various stations, including Workforce Mobile and a simulation trailer presented by David Carter, instructor of heavy equipment at UAM.
Dorissa Kaufman, director of adult education at UAM, stated, “Adult education programs are designed to help individuals gain the skills needed to thrive personally and professionally. By empowering our students with education and training, we are also helping to build a strong and skilled workforce that will benefit our communities for years to come. UAM Adult Education is a grant program whose mission is to provide adult learners with the tools to improve and refine their academic skills and attain the General Educational Development Credential, as well as the life skills that prepare the citizen for self-sufficiency and an improved quality of life. UAM’s program serves eight counties in southeast Arkansas: Arkansas, Ashley, Chicot, Cleveland, Desha, Drew, Jefferson and Lincoln. UAM Adult Education offers a range of essential programs, including adult basic education, citizenship, English as a second language (ESL), GED preparation and testing, integrated education and training (IET) courses such as phlebotomy, pharmacy technician and CDL, Workforce Alliance for Growth in the Economy (WAGE) and more.
