STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Calling all teachers, families and students in the Staten Island school community. We want to hear from you!

The Advance/SILive.com has been sharing the latest news in its education column, In Class, which highlights what’s going on in area schools.

Private, Catholic and public school communities of all grades — even college-level — are welcome to send us their stories.

We recently wrote about the following: an art show held at P373R, co-located at PS 58, that featured original artwork by students; education leaders and students tying ribbons to take a stand against gun violence; how one Staten Island student conducted a unique performance of “Annie KIDS”; a feature on the first Staten Island graduating class of participants in an inaugural Commercial Driver’s License Training Program; teachers honored for their dedication and service; and Tottenville High School taking home a big win in the citywide Minecraft Challenge.

The list goes on.

And sometimes, a story may go beyond our column.

We profiled three Staten Island young adults who are ensuring that Staten Island’s youth are receiving the same positive and fun experiences at camp — more than a decade after they attended a YMCA summer camp themselves, the special day when the first Staten Island cohort graduated from the borough’s P-TECH program; an outstanding teacher who received a prestigious FLAG Award for Teaching Excellence; how a Community School is working to provide important services to its students and community; and a student who worked hard to receive the highly selective Gates Scholarship.

The column is typically posted weekly on SILive.com on Tuesday mornings.

And for even more school news and information for parents, we officially launched Plugged-In Parent last year, an exciting initiative set on bringing readers the stories that Staten Island families need to know.

Be sure to email education reporter Annalise Knudson at aknudson@siadvance.com with your story ideas. We look forward to hearing from you!
