Another 42 Michigan graduating high school seniors are taking National Merit Scholarships with them to college next fall — this time with a boost from their destination school.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced more than 2,900 winners of college-sponsored awards on Wednesday, June 4, ranging from scholarships of $500 up to $2,000 annually for up to four years of students’ undergraduate studies.

This round of scholarships comes after more than 70 college-bound Michiganders were announced to be National Merit Scholars from among 15,000 finalists in the annual program, earning $2,500 awards.

According to a news release, there were 146 higher education institutions, including 74 private and 72 public colleges in 42 states and Washington DC, that were underwriting National Merit Scholarship awards for expected students.
