Professional networking platform LinkedIn has released its list of the top 50 U.S. colleges for long-term career success—and three schools in New York made the cut.
The rankings were based on key factors including job placement, internship experience, alumni network strength, career outcomes, and the breadth of skills gained during college.
Which New York schools made the list?
1. Cornell University (#5) – Located in Ithaca, Cornell ranked high due to strong alumni networks in tech, finance, and higher education. Graduates stood out in fields like scientific computing, aerospace engineering, and animation.2. Columbia University (#18) – Columbia alumni have strong connections in finance, tech, and consulting. Top skills highlighted include Stata, AI engineering, and foreign languages.3. Colgate University (#36) – Based in Hamilton, Colgate was recognized as a top 5 school for network strength. LinkedIn’s methodology was based on five pillars:
- Job placement: % of alumni with jobs or grad school within one year
- Internships & recruiter demand: % of alumni with internships during undergrad
- Career success: % of recent grads with entrepreneurship or executive roles
- Network strength: How connected alumni are to each other and current students
- Knowledge breadth: Range of skills and academic disciplines among alumni
