MADISON (WKOW) — All 19 of the protesters who were arrested at a recent UW Board of Regents meeting will be cited, according to the UW-Madison Police Department.
Nineteen people were arrested after disrupting the board’s meeting last Thursday for about 15 minutes. A representative from the group said they were concerned about the university’s response to an encampment on Library Mall this spring and investments in certain industries.
UWPD spokesperson Marc Lovicott said all 19 will be issued a citation for violating UWS 18.11(4)(a) Assembly – Block/Obstruct/Occupy Prohibited Signs/Noise for intentionally creating a volume of noise that unreasonably interfered with a university-sponsored or university-authorized activity.
One person also received an additional citation for violating UWS 18.08(4) Deposit of Human Waste for intentionally spitting on food inside the meeting room, Lovicott reported.
Of the 19 people arrested, eight were affiliated with UW–Madison, two were UW–Madison alumni, four were affiliated with UW–Milwaukee, and five had no UW affiliation.
About 50 protesters disrupted the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents meeting at Gordon Dining & Event Center.
“Student Affairs staff and UWPD officers warned the group to stop, but they refused and continued the disruption. UWPD officers cleared the group from the room so the meeting could continue,” UWPD said.
The meeting was able to resume after the group left.
